Garcia House Featured in LA Times Mag

The Los Angeles Times Magazine featured John Lautner’s 1962 Garcia House on Mulholland Dr. in this past Sunday’s issue.  Marmol Radziner completed the restoration, while New York-based decorator Darren Brown handled the interior design. Check out other work by Lautner at the Hammer Museum exhibit going on now until October 12.

LEED AP Campaign

A new advertising campaign is under way for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited businesses committed to being eco-friendly.  Participants will have their business card used in one or more advertisements produced by the Green Building Certification Institute.  The ads will show the overwhelming number of businesses that are committed to going green.  Find out more about participating in the campaign.

LA Times Showcase Home

Loring House

Renowned architects Hadrian Predock and John Frane’s newest creation in Los Angeles - the Loring House, showcases the California modern home. Casework in the master suite, bookshelves and the custom kitchen window seat are among the other cabinetry work by Marmol Radziner Prefab. The home features pieces from the Marmol Radziner Furnitureline, including the sofa, club chairs, and dining set. All pieces are hand crafted out of solid walnut and steel. California Green for the Weekend Helped by the Sun

Cutting edge green technological advancements in the building industry were on display this past weekend at West Coast Green 2008 . Held in the Silicon Valley at the San Jose Convention Center, West Coast Green introduced a modern solution to providing power to events. SolaRover is a mobile solar generator that utilizes 14, 175-watt solar panels to charge 18 batteries and was used to power a portion of the event. Marmol Radziner Prefab had several suppliers on hand, which included Bonded Logic Inc., EcoTimber, and Kohler Company.

The Palms House, Marmol Radziner Prefab’s first home in the LA area, was open to the public for the first time this past Sunday, September 14.  Guests strolled through the home, which features the Marmol Radziner furniture line, custom cabinetry, EcoTimber flooring, Heath Ceramics tile, and many more sustainable design features.

MOCA Prefab Tour

This unique opportunity to experience Los Angeles prefab architecture is now open to the public. Leo Marmol, FAIA, of Marmol Radziner and Associates, along with Michael Sylvester of Dwell, will host this two-day event that includes a tour of Marmol Radziner Prefab’s Vernon factory and newly completed Palms House. Reserve your tickets now. Space is extremely limited.

The event on Saturday September 27 offers a behind-the-scenes tour of the Marmol Radziner Prefab factory in Vernon, where you will see homes built on the assembly line from steel construction and cabinetry, to appliance installation and delivery. Presentations by your guides will examine the history of prefab architecture, the current phenomenon and what makes prefab green and sustainable.On Sunday, September 28, the day-long guided bus tour will begin at 10am, taking you to the newest examples of prefab architecture on Los Angeles’ Westside, two of them so new that they are still in the process of being installed! You will be among the first to see a number of factory-built private homes including the newly finished Marmol Radziner Palms House in Venice, and the first Los Angeles project by New York based Resolution: 4 Architecture, among others. Also included is a picnic-style box lunch provided by Marmalade Cafe at the site of the Eames House in Pacific Palisades. Six projects in total are on the tour. MOCA Prefab Tour

The Palms residence is a sustainable 2,800 sq ft home, with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Highlights of the home includes extensive built-in walnut cabinetry, a gourmet kitchen, an outdoor sitting room, concrete and Eco-Timber flooring, Heath Ceramics custom bathroom tiles and custom Marmol Radziner furnishings.

The Green Scene

Battle of the DJs

If you’d like your cover charge to go to a better cause this weekend, check out Humanitaire’s “Battle of the DJs”, benefiting Global Green. This event is powered by bio-diesel generators and you can even hang out in the “green” beer garden. Hosted by Andrew Keegan, you’ll be able to vote for your favorite DJ - headliners include DJ Rap and LA Riots.
