Bottled Water is Over and Not Sustainable

The backlash against bottled water has started and has finally been exposed in a big way as Kim Jeffrey, the CEO of Nestle Waters, which controls 35% of the market, acknowledges his company’s damage to the environment at a recent Plastics Summit.  His honesty is commendable.  Unfortunately for Nestle Water and peers, bottled water has become the new “cigarettes” - a disdainful bad habit.

We are constantly thinking of ways to be sustainable here at our office, with our prefab homes and in our personal lives. We hope that you too will consider making a simple life choice in your quest to lead a more sustainable lifestyle and cut out purchasing bottled water. Buy a refillable bottle and remember to use it! Carry it everywhere, make it part of your lifestyle.

Here is a great new bottle that we really like, the new KOR ONE hydration vessel. http://www.korwater.com

Los Angeles Convention Center to be Run Carbon Neutral

The California Gift Show, held annually in the Los Angeles Convention Center, will be getting a new source of energy this coming year. The show, which runs January 16 – 19, will be entirely carbon neutral, making up for nearly 20,000 lbs of CO2 emissions.  In order to do that normally, you would have to not drive 21,400 miles plus, recycle 47,450 aluminum cans, or 7,700 newspapers. Through a partnership with BeGreen and the Green Mountain Energy Company, the longest tenured green power supplier in the United States, the event will be one of the first of its kind in the area. The Los Angeles Conventions Center is the first US convention center of similar age and size to become certified in Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design for existing buildings from the United States Green Building Council.

Los Angeles Pioneer for the California Green Movement

los-angeles-skyline.JPG

Contrary to popular belief, Los Angeles is amongst the leaders of America in the movement to become more environmentally responsible and conscious.  In a survey collected by the Brookings Institute, Los Angeles ranked greener than New York, Portland, and even San Francisco.  Among the recognitions for the city, is its decision in 2003 to be the first city to mandate LEED (Leaders in Energy and Environmental Design) specifications.  More recently, Los Angeles recorded the highest solid waste recycle rate of any large American city.  These accolades along with many more make Los Angeles a pioneer for the green movement here in California, and a bench mark for large cities around the world.

Tips to go Green this Hollows Eve

halloween.jpg

Halloween is the night where gluttony and excess are the standard, leaving little room for conservation. No matter the situation, several steps may be made to make this Halloween a little easier on our mother earth. Decorations from years past, along with some new ones made from household recycled goods, reusing and exchanging costumes, and utilizing LED light string lights are among the ways to create a very ECO-friendly Halloween. To learn more about making your Halloween green, check out www.greenhalloween.org.
